Whenever these inauguration performance cancellations, campaign contribution cancellations and the like come up (Chrisette Michele, Snoop Dogg, Nelly, Mississippi Valley State, Goya, etc.), I wonder about the overall situation. Especially what was going on in the potentially canceled party’s mind.
I understand that we are quick to cancel people, especially strangers. I’m a Taurus sun, Virgo moon with a lot of Aries in my chart, only child and only grandchild, and my family died when I was 17; I promise the list of folks “dead” to me is long, including people with whom I share blood, including people I was close to for decades.
Personally, I’ve chosen morals over money. Others think differently.
To be clear, I have turned down working with places I personally boycott. I was invited to be the first author at Melba’s for their book thing, and gladly turned it down because I absolutely do not support Melba’s. For more reasons each day. And that was guaranteed sales and money and publicity, etc! Personally, I’ve learned that God will always help you uphold your morals and “hit you in the head” when you dare ignore them.
One must assume, however, that those who agree to perform at the inauguration, for free mind you, have conducted a cost-benefit analysis and that, to them, it will be beneficial.
Republicans are in control right now. These artists’ choices to participate in the inauguration are largely political, selfish, nothing personal.
Do these artists and companies care about getting love and support from democrats, especially when the White House, Senate and House of Representatives are all under republican rule? And were weeeee even checking for them like that? *They* love Nelly and Snoop Dogg. Chrisette Michele was already old news for most of her fans from a decade prior. Mississippi has been a red state for decades.
The same way organizations and people like Coinbase, Winning for Women and the National Association of Realtors, Ben and Felicia Horowitz and Rob Granieri hedged their bets and contributed fairly equally to both campaigns, performing at the inauguration is largely political and done because they assume that will place them in the good graces of those in power.
As for me and my house, we want no parts of Trump’s inauguration.
Would I personally attend or be involved in this inauguration or any other for a person I largely despise? Absolutely not. I know that God an’em will always provide for me, so personally I wouldn’t feel the need to shuck and jive for Trump or Landry or anyone else.
But I can understand why a person or group would choose to participate, since they don’t have that faith and therefore just jump at the chance to potentially get support from those in power.
Will I cancel them? It’s futile and a waste of bandwidth to actively cancel someone I didn’t care about and to whom I wasn’t giving my energy or money anyway. Shrug.
