When I first shopped on Temu, I had no tips for shopping on Temu. This was maybe two years ago? It took me a year to shop on Temu again, because I didn’t think I did it well the first time, and now I’ve learned a few lessons and am excited to give you some tips for shopping on Temu, so you won’t make the same mistakes I have.
“But Megan, Temu?! Don’t you know they [insert bad things there]?!” You ain’t wrong. I only sorta know because I refuse to watch the movie until I’m done buying whatever I need to buy. The American way, I guess. Also though, the things I’ve bought on there are mostly things I either can’t find in stores or are things that cost too much in stores. Or maybe I can find something similar, but it’s ugly to me. Our Walmarts are trash, I have to check myself out at Five Below, etc., so here I am. And I like this better than Amazon, for the things I’ve bought so far. If you don’t want me to shop at Temu, slide me $100 or so and I’ll stop for a month or two.
Tips for Shopping at Temu
- Sign up with someone’s Temu signup code so you get a free something or other or discount or whatever. That’s how I messed up the first time. No code, and was just buying everything with no discount. No matter what, start with the Temu signup code.
- Ignore the “original” prices and only look at the actual price. to be honest I feel a class action coming on because I remember another retailer inflating “original” prices and getting in trouble for it. Common practice, but still.
- Use Afterpay! One, it’s helpful to break it up and two when you do good on Afterpay you get a huge credit line. God forbid you need something expensive immediately, it will be there. I currently have $800 available, which is comforting. (I’m sure you fancy high credit score people have more.)
- Price adjustments. You get one per order every 30 days. So check every five days or so. When it’s a few bucks, do the price adjustment. Open Temu and go to You – Your Orders. Then click the order. Click Price Adjustment or, if you don’t see that, click the ellipsis and then click Price Adjustment.
- Lightning deals are great! Get in, get out. Useful if you see something that you know you’d wanted before.
- Click away from whatever they try to show you when you first open the app. They’ll make like you must buy now, so you’re pressured and tempted to shop irresponsibly and overbuy. Ask me and my random orthotic supplies how we know.
- Don’t let them give you random texts and keep them out your inbox unless it’s related directly to your order. This is great advice for all apps, really. If you know me, you know pro-digital minimalism.
