After being chronically unemployed for over six years, following a 2020 layoff, I finally have a job! One, I LOVE it. Two, it’s really the culmination of all the struggle over the years. Seriously, I can (but, for brevity, won’t) dot-to-dot every rejection and every bit of struggle all to lead here.
So What had Happened Was…
OK today is newsletter day and I gotta run to the grocery, so I really want to keep it brief. But also I gotta share the testimony, should it bless someone else. Aight so boom, my home that I grew up in and inherited at 17 when my family died and then rebuilt after Katrina at 22? Yeah so long story short (see previous blog posts and newsletters), from April 2025-December 2025 I watched as it was literally ruined all around me. Then I had to quickly pack everything and leave.

Nothing but God, I ended up at a really cool apartment building! I LOVE IT HERE. And so basically one day the owner of said building said he wanted to talk about me working for him. We had a good Google video chat, and then he said he wanted me to meet his right hand man. During this time, I was interviewing for two comms roles at Tulane.
Chile I messaged him to see when he wanted me to meet dude, and he was like oh yeah we actually hired someone with experience in the field (property management and leasing), but you can make a little money and get experience by helping her. No, bruh! So I let go and let God. Well it didn’t work out with the lady (nothing serious, just not a good fit), and then BOOM they had me meet dude and he liked me and now I’m here. It’ll be one month 9/10!
I really do love it. Collecting money, problem solving, light cleaning, being friendly, going to court, shopping, sales, customer service, being cute, learning Spanish. And I don’t have to use my writing brain at all!

- rebuilding my home at 22 after Hurricane Katrina as a (my Vietnamese contractor voice) “single laaaaady”
- ex-husband and his family making me sign my house over to them less than 24 hours after having their grandchild
- neighbor “helping” and buying my house when it was up for foreclosure
- rental landscape of New Orleans East having been hell when I was looking
- working at the corporate office, in marketing, at 1st Lake
- getting rejected by Downtown Development District, Gulf States Newsroom, Daily Memphian (location), etc.
- also it was hilarious that ol girl wanted me to pay $1,500 to live in my old house with possums, mice, mold, no hot water, and now here I am paying that for the best place in New Orleans
So many things!
My plan was to give all details here, but I already kinda shared them online and I don’t necessarily want people in my business all like that. Please remember, I only share what I want to. How and when I want to, etc. However, I’d love to leave you with a few scriptures:
