Chance Meeting with my Uncle Ron
The other day, my Uncle Ron (in the 7th Ward way) saw me while I was outside looking at my trees. He’s always been one of my favorite people, and the chance meeting seemed important, like a major part of my predestined life. Every word he said, everything he prophesied to me just made sense. It felt like I could hear it all so clearly.
He asked what I was up to career-wise, and I told him I was taking a writing break so I could focus on my mom’s memoir. Then he said, “I want you to write a book and give it away for free.” Definitely a great idea, but what would I write about? How could I do that and still have time to finish my mom’s memoir?
Friend’s Post Appeared on Social Media
Another important-feeling moment in my predestined life: a friend’s post popped up on Facebook two days later. She seemed nervous about a big career decision. So I told her, “The parachute will open once you jump, every TIME.” That’s something I’ve learned along the way, and it’s helped me. It’s just natural to me at this point, and is the way I’ve operated since 2018. Not at all profound, in my mind. Well. People on the post seemed to dig it!
“The parachute will open once you jump every time.” And now I’m crying. That’s permanently stored in my heart and mind. Thank you!

WOW! So lightbulb moment! Write an e-book about times people jumped and their parachutes opened, times they stepped out on faith, and just give it away for free online forever! Someone needs these testimonies.

Testimony Example:
In 2018, I was teaching reading intervention at an elementary school in New Orleans East. Things we OK. Loved the kids, faculty, admin and staff, but it felt off. The tiniest things were a struggle. Just before then, I was let go from one teaching job I sorta hated, and left another when a highly unqualified teacher called me a bitch in front one of my students. Always loved the kids and they always loved me, and I got along great with pretty much everyone. But clearly, God wanted me to leave the classroom. And I always say, “sometimes God has to hit you in the head.” I didn’t wanna get hit in the head by Him anymore!
While driving back from Houston, on a Crescent City Snow book and snowball tour sorta thing, I called HR and said I wouldn’t be returning. One great thing I’ve learned is that at-will employment goes both ways. Just like they can fire you anytime without giving reason, you can leave anytime without giving reason. Of course I gave my reasons, so I could help the next interventionist. All went well!
The next day, I woke up and freaked out. IDIOT. You just bought a new car and now you quit your job?! WOW. But I was always fine. My son was fine. Utilities stayed on, I went on trips, never went hungry, landed a great fellowship with Jack Jones Literary Arts, really stepped into my purpose!
All because I stepped out on faith and jumped, knowing the parachute would open.
