Thank you for subscribing to my monthly newsletter!

So excited to say I have nearly 300 subscribers! I truly appreciate it. Like I've said before, the goal is to be able to use social media for fun, to not feel like I have to use it for work.

Here's what I've been working on!

Speaking of work. I decided to spend Christmas just being a mom and having the best Christmas ever with Franklin, so aside from working on my mom's memoir I didn't do anything.

Parents Magazine asked me write about Easter, so that will be coming out I guess in the March issue of Parents. However I haven't seen Parents on newsstands like I used to, and that's upsetting me and my sources.

In last month's newsletter, I told you I was writing my mom's memoir and how I participated in the #PitMad Twitter pitching contest.

"One really perfect agent showed interest, and I've emailed her a query letter and my first chapter. Gonna pitch others soon too.

I'll report back in January with great news!"

Great news is, she asked for the full manuscript! Bad news is, I just need time with no stress to finish. So my staycation I took in... IDK what month what year it's all a blur... that gave me time to create a list of literary magazines and competitions and agents. Now I just need the time to finish the manuscript and make it perfect. It's a new moon tonight, so I'll get it together.

Next month, big news, promise!

Happy 2021!

Love,
   Megan

Personal Life

Franklin loves being the DJ and I knew he'd love DJ Soul Sister, so we spent New Year's Eve together on a staycation at the Ace Hotel! She had a lowkey gig there, and I know that's likely the only time I could bring Franklin to watch her. My sweet baby was Shazamming all the songs to add to our Franklin and Mommy Jams playlist on Spotify.

Speaking of Franklin. He's suddenly back in virtual school but thankfully it's not as stressful as last time. I still spent the first two weeks wishing a meteor would strike me, but now that I've got that Parents story done I can sorta rest.

He's super clingy though, I guess because he had already spent two weeks away from friends for Christmas and now he still hasn't seen them. And I be wanting to fight kids at the playground so I try to stay away.

That's why the only work I plan on accepting is of the personal essay variety. I don't wanna call, text, email, message, none of it. Because I ain't got the bandwith, I just ain't.

Public Service Announcement

Be kind with yourselves and others. I feel like because 2021 has been a bit of a letdown so far, because it hasn't been the magical year of salvation, people are having severe mental and emotional breakdowns. So many friends have been suicidal, so many people I know have committed suicide, and many others aren't that bad off yet, but they are spiraling. It's only the 13th.

Even if you're feeling just a little suicidal, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255 or visit suicidepreventionlifeline.org. If things are too hard to bear or you are overwhelmed to the point of high anxiety, please let something go or delegate responsibilities if you can. The world will be awesome again, I promise, and you're gonna wanna see it and participate! We'll be sad without you, so stay!

Message!

No one is responsible for the way you've built someone up in your mind. If them being themselves "shocks" or "surprises" you somehow, guess what baby that's your issue. Y'all be thinking y'all know people, on some "friends in [your] head" type stuff, which is cool until y'all get crazy with them on public forums and call them fake etc. You just didn't know them. But, oh, you learn quickly soon after.

You'd be surprised how many people I've had to cut off or put in check behind this! Talk to ya maw crazy, because I ain't the one.
